Frequently Asked Questions about our mission trips

What do we do?

Participants will have choices depending on their skills and interests. We normally have:

1) construction/maintenance — building, painting, repairing, puttering

2) children/youth — vacation Bible school, after-school programs, working with the orphans, assisting in the schools

3) medical — teaching or practicing in the hospital and surrounding clinics

4) pastoral care — in the hospital, at the orphanage, supporting Nyadire staff

Where do we stay?

Nyadire Mission has a number of staff houses that we stay in. We stay two or three to a room in single beds. Each house has a common area and kitchen. Nyadire residents do the cooking and cleaning for us.

What is Nyadire Mission like?

Think of it like a college campus — various departments occupying different buildings spread over a large area. Nyadire Mission has many departments: schools, hospital, orphanage, farm, etc.

The people are extremely friendly and happy to have us there. They are very welcoming and hospitable.

October 2008 mission trip

After having to postpone our June and August 2008 trips to Nyadire, The Nyadire Connection is thrilled to have sent a group off to Zimbabwe on October 2. The seven-member team will not only volunteer at Nyadire but will also have a chance to work with another American group in the capital, Harare, building a church. Many of the participants will also spend
several days at the end of their trip visiting Victoria Falls and Hwange Game
Park in western Zimbabwe.

The team recently gathered with their large suitcases at a “packing party.” Among much mirth and merriment, donated items are categorized, prioritized and then packed in the suitcases to be carried to Zimbabwe.
Each suitcase is carefully weighed so as not to incur additional charges.
Donated items that will travel with this group include: sutures, medical books, toiletries for orphans, handmade blankets and quilts, children’s books,
clothing, medication, and battery-less flashlights.
